Totally agree re: Queen W and Bloor. Hamilton used to have that exact vibe on King and Main. We destroyed our streets, Toronto didn't.

Keep in mind your experience at 5 yesterday only happens for about 30-60mins a day. Rest of the day it's a freeway.

I would like to see us simply convert King to two-way like Queen or King in TO. Morning rush ban parking headed into downtown. Eve rush hour ban parking heading out of downtown. Rest of the day it would be 1-lane each way with parking on both sides. Widen sidewalks west of Queen where it widens and watch the stretch come back to life.

Of course in classist Hamilton we only allow this type of safe, healthy economic environment on streets in our precious suburban areas. Traffic moves slower on Wilson in Ancaster all day long than King St. But they are special. They deserve healthy retail, bike lanes, flower medians and local businesses to support. We don't. We're just the poor dumping ground.

Short term I would like to see 24-7 parking remain on the south curb with corner planter bumpouts. Also extend it to Dundurn. This would allow wider sidewalks west of Dundurn to cathedral park. Have parking on the north curb from James to Dundurn except from 7-9 and 4-6 where the north lane becomes a bus/bike lane similar to Bay in TO. Add bike sharrows on the left 1/3 of the north lane so they are also visible beside the parked cars the rest of the day. From Locke to Dundurn a bike lane can be added on the north curb and parking/bus lane to its left in the extra unnecessary lane that magically appears west of Locke. This would appease businesses and create safer sidewalks for 20 hours a day. Would also leave 2 car lanes from Wellington to Dundurn. Bikes are accommodated from John to the lanes over the 403 and transit has it's own lane during rush hour.
