Shari Vandermolen is an award-winning performer and vocalist living in Niagara who has been entertaining audiences in the GTA and southwestern Ontario for the last 15 years. She imbues the best of contemporary influence into classic songs while paying homage to such legendary vocalists as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Etta James, Nina Simone and Sara Vaughan in order to make a song her own.
Prominent in the Hamilton arts community for the last 10 years, Shari Vandermolen has also performed in numerous musical theatre productions – a passion only equal to her love of jazz and the blues. Shari won critical acclaim for her portrayal of “Mama Rose” in the musical Gypsy and was subsequently invited by director Tim Koetting to star as the iconic character of “Norma Desmond” in the production of Sunset Boulevard.
“She takes a song and gives it emotional depth and edge. She not only sings it magnificently she acts the heart and soul out of it… When she tackles such hurting songs and raw pain surges from her throat, that pain finds you in the dark and makes you shiver with pleasure.” – The Hamilton Spectator
“…hear Vandermolen make jelly of your emotions with her voice and her art… one example is Stormy Weather… I barely weathered that storm intact.” – View Magazine
“Shari’s training as an actor imbues her music with an emotional edge that takes us places we have never been with these songs. Quarter to Nine is an experience as much as a concert” – Barbara Milne, The Pearl Company
