Join HNC Field Events Director and local birder Rob Porter on a tour of birding hotspots of Dundas. First the group will meet at the parking lot behind the Olympic Park rink for a hike though "Olympic Woods", a well-known and popular winter birding location with frequent sightings of uncommon and rare winter visitors.
Second, the group will car pool down to Desjardins Canal for a look at winter waterfowl species present there. Thirdly, the group will car pool up to Fallsview Road at Dyment's Farm for a look at winter field species such as the Snow Bunting, Horned Lark, and hopefully a Lapland Longspur or two if they decide to migrate here this year. (Additional hotspots may be added or substituted for the outing depending on how the 2015 winter birding season pans out.)
Meet at: parking lot of Olympic Park Ice Surface Area, 70 Olympic Drive, Dundas.
For those wishing to arrive by transit, the nearest stops do not have busses operating on Saturday. The nearest operating stop is at Cootes Drive and East Street, via the "52 Delaware/Dundas" bus. You will then need to walk east on Cootes Drive, to the Olympic Drive intersection, then head north up Olympic Drive until you reach the Ice Surface. Alternatively, you could also walk from McMaster University down Cootes Drive to Olympic Drive.
