... what about some kind of photography gallery/shop/venue? Vintage historical illustrations (including repros of Elizabeth Simcoe's enchanting watercolours) of the lake front combined with historic and contemporary photography of the area? Prints are 'for sale' (easy enough to set-up) for 'Lighthouse Restoration' and/or 'tourism'. Plus, establish annual photography contest. Link up with other North American Lighthouse venues & marine attractions via Lighthouse Digest (http://www.lhdigest.com/index.cfm ).(And try to stay off their Doomsday List.)
Dundurn Castle is now a major draw for Hamilton. There's no reason the Canal area and Lighthouse site couldn't experience the same kind of 'renewal'. All it takes is imagination, drive and yes, about half a million to 'save' it.
