fantastic work! Amazing how simple it really is to bring balance and enhance the quality of life and business for everyone.
Also, I'm tired of the whole "we can't touch Main or King until we know what's happening with LRT" attitude. LRT is many years away, if ever. That's no excuse to leave these main downtown streets in their horrendous condition. Main St needs to lose a lane or two immediately. York is 2 lanes west of Dundurn and 2 lanes east of Queen, but 3 each way in the middle. Why?? Let's install protected bike lanes immediately. Not after 9 years of study.
Streets like Catharine, Bay, Wellington, Victoria, Sanford, Wentworth etc..... can be converted very quickly too with no traffic problems. In fact, traffic will flow better with options, and streets that still have leafy residential neighbourhoods such as Catharine, Bay, Wellington, Victoria etc... can become safer and more liveable.
I've been reading the updates to Portland's downtown plan recently and it really hits home how far behind we're falling. We have no downtown plan...at least not one being actively worked on. I'm sure there's one collecting dust on a shelf somewhere. Portland is world renowned for its downtown renewal and isn't content to get lazy and sit on their success..they continue to work towards the future. It's time for Hamilton citizens to demand the same.
