You are so wrong. This city was a steel city for many many years. There was a time when Hamilton was the envy of many other cities even Toronto folk were envious. In case you haven't noticed things are a little different now. It is not just Hamilton it is many other cities as well. Flint, Detroit, Pittsburgh and Buffalo just to name few. The problems that Hamilton has to face are not necessarily of Hamilton's doing.

Toronto is and has been the commercial capital of english speaking Canada for a long time and all of Canada since the silly language laws went into effect in Montreal and so many head offices were driven away. As the times have changed that has given GTA a big boost in growth and popularity. Hamilton is as much a suburb of Toronto as it is a city in itself, maybe more so.
