"you just can't expect to live a suburban lifestyle of one-stop-shopping. That's just one thing separating downtown from the burbs and makes downtown living all the better."

Great point.

The proposed grant has the target of a 22,000 square foot store. How much parking will such a store be required to have? If this is going to be put up on a block downtown, and it's going to be hellish to walk to like Dundurn Plaza or the Food Basics on Barton. Really, walking across the parking lot of Dundurn Plaza to pick up a few groceries, I always think I might as well live in the 'burbs.

There are a lot of options for food in Hamilton's core. That map that City staff spent however long preparing, misses most of the places I frequent to buy my groceries. I think the fact that they think the answer is one single massive store catering to a "broad customer base" shows how little imagination they have.
