I don't consider four-lane one-way streets safe for cyclists because:

The prevailing speed of automobile traffic is often 60 km/h
The volume of automobile traffic is much greater than on two-way streets
Drivers get used to travelling at a fixed speed (with the synchronized lights) and don't expect to have to slow down
Left turns involve crossing three or more lanes of one-way traffic, which is much more difficult than crossing one lane and waiting for a gap in oncoming traffic
