Hamilton itself has quite a 'heat island effect' due to our urban, dense lower city and our unique geography. On days with no wind the temperature and humidex is regularly 2 or 3 degrees higher downtown than at the airport. I'm willing to bet Environment Canada's number would be even higher if they used a weather station right in the city instead of way out in Mount Hope. I'd like them to keep water fountains and park splash pads on until 10 or 11pm during heat alerts too.
