Another great essay Mark, I can't believe you used dry erase markers on the monitor! I think Ryan needs to learn us some easy computer skills, and perhaps he needs some Tai chi.

This area, and more so the one between Frid and Longwood are ideal pedestrian/bike shortcuts, but it seems the City is doing everything it can to prevent this. The prescribed options, Aberdeen, Longwood, Dundurn and Main are the most unpleasant, and probably also dangerous pedestrian experiences in West Hammer.

As for avoiding trains, from the comments you'd think it's carnage out there! Dangerous yes, but e.g. train freight has statistically 10x fewer fatalities than truck freight per tonne-km. Those ipod wearers squashed by trains are tragic, but car fatalities dominate, perhaps so much so that people don't notice any more. The Christmas shoppers rushing around today weren't thinking any Christian thoughts with respect to pedestrians.
