Much of what Terry Cooke is saying is at the heart of the stadium debate. The West Harbour offered Hamilton the best opportunity to bring LRT, all-day GO train service and brownfield remediation together with an enhanced and open waterfront. The same simply can't be said of any other site. As Cooke notes, those things have been accepted across North America as the keys to urban revitalization and the means by which to strengthen communities and attract both young businesses and young entrepreneurs.

Unfortunately, the success of cities like Raleigh, Portland and Pittsburgh seems to have gone unnoticed to many Hamiltonians in what is truly a city divided. Despite the obvious corelation between the degradation of downtown and the creation of attractions and shopping opportunities in the "suburbs" and on the mountain, few seem to have realized that when one area of our city degrades, sooner or later, it effects us all.
