Dear Councillor Morelli,

I am truly saddened to read the the Pearl Company will close, as reported in the Hamilton Spectator.

The Spectator reports your stance on the issue as follows: "Like anything else of this kind, there is a process that you have to go through. Sure it can be frustrating, but you must work through it, follow it. It works in most cases."

To me, that stance can be summed up simply: don't do anything to help, and when bad things happen, blame it on a "process" over which you have no control.

That's simply unacceptable. This is not a process, this is a travesty. As councillor for Ward 3, your first responsibility was to ensure that the Pearl Company succeeded, your second responsibility was to ensure that failure was not forced on them, and your third, now, is to be loudly and firmly stating that this is a broken process that needs to be fixed and fixed now, not defending it by saying that "it works in most cases"!

"Works in most cases" is not acceptable when we face a tragic cultural loss to your ward and to the city as a whole.

"Works in most cases" is not acceptable when good, hard-working citizens put dreams into action and make real change happen and then are shot down by absurd bureaucratic processes.

Councillor Morelli: how are you going to fix this problem, and how quickly are you going to get it done?

Sincerely,

Adrian Duyzer
