To be certain, diesel generators were installed by GEC ALSTHOM, and not diesel engines. They were designed for short distance travel only. This permitted the 7800 series trolleybus to be used at the "new" Wentworth Garage as trolley overhead was not installed beyond the security gates on either side of the facility. They also assisted in the moving of vehicles that had lost overhead power for whatever reason.
