Friction can't be used as the limiting factor in comparing acceleration of LRT and BRT. LRT (steel-on-steel) has a normal operating coefficient of friction of 0.3. This means a maximum acceleration of 0.3G is possible. NYC subways accelerate at 4km/h/s. This is approximately 0.1G. Having ridden the NYC subway, there is no way anyone standing on an LRT (or Bus) would want to accelerate 3 times faster!
