I met JP Danko at the Hamilton Citizen Jury event at Mohawk College, and I have to say, I wholeheartedly endorse him as Candidate for Ward 6
[personal opinion: not necessarily general LRT advocacy organization opinion though many of us apparently agree!]
My personal opinion is he is a great balance for the Mountain, and understands and knows the challenges that lie ahead. He is an excellent diplomat that can engage Mountain residents and Lower City residents. He has the Concession BIA in his ward, the only true urbanized street on the Mountain, so this is a very important anchor of urbanization to market the rest of Ward 6 to. He understands transit -- that it needs to be more pleasant to catch the bus, as the 10-year HSR transit expansion occurs, and is very willing to work efficiently with an eventual A-Line incremental LRT extension (e.g. an A-T line hybrid to Limeridge mall, which is squarely in Ward 6 territory -- already a major transit hub).
Mr. Danko, is a carowner and will work with Ward 6 residents (avoids a "war on cars" confrontation, while bringing common sense to the table) to ease a reasonably gradual transition to improved Mountain Complete Streets where it makes sense, as an engineering problem based on sound facts and statistics, politely and cheerfully explaining some common sense, such as a curb-bumpout-protected child dropoff lane at an elementary school! It's hard to disagree with that.
If you live in Ward 6, then get to know Mr. Danko (even if you got mixed feelings: he is not a Lower City impostor on Mountain). Get a feel for him and understand how he represents Ward 6 and engage with him!
