You are missing the point. Roads should be designed so that residential areas do not become thru ways or at least are not more convenient thru ways than the larger surrounding arterial roads.

You are free to wend your way through the suburban mazes if you please - no one is disputing that - but why would you? Only to get to or from your house which reduces traffic and quiets the street. We should strive for this kind of calming in all residential areas, urban included.

One of the obstacles to this are people who use residential streets that they don't live on to quickly get to their destinations who get angry when it is suggested that they should use another route or that their current route should be modified to slow or discourage thru traffic.

Also, you don't have 'every right' to drive anywhere. Driving is a privilege that can be taken away (check the cover of your drivers handbook) and I would think that if the roads were designed to slow you down or change your driving patterns you'd learn to live with it.

P.S. Dude, 4 in the morning? Seriously, don't start your day getting all revved up on RTH - from one human to another.
