it's just too easy to judge history from a modern perspective. One may not agree with all Sir John A. MacDonald did but that doesn't mean we paint him entirely in a pejorative manner. He was a man who did a lot of good and some evil, just like you and I. Don Smith: “if judged by the standards of his age, not ours, he emerges as a complex and relatively tolerant individual.” See Don's article in the Globe and Mail for a more thorough treatment of MacDonald and early Canadian Aboriginal-European political relations.
