I have lived in Durand/Kirkendall for 25 years and have worked in the core that entire time.
Downtown is NOT "basically a parking lot during rush hour". Never has been and still isn't. Normal cities have rush hour traffic that has to stop for red lights. In Hamilton this gets described as gridlock or as you describe, "a parking lot".
Only in Hamilton can driving through the core of a city unimpeded at all times of the day been seen as an ideal. Now if you could find free parking too.............well that would be nirvana.
