On December 12, 2007, Seattle launched its South Lake Union Streetcar to great fanfare. Has anyone ever seen this happen the first day a new bus service comes into effect?

Bring that magic to Hamilton!
As I said in my last article (I told you so!) you simply don't get the same excitement (and ridership) with buses.
LRT becomes a part of the tangible infrastructure of the town and thus, an integral part of it's identity. People in LRT towns take pride in their streetcars, just like Hamilton used to do with it's old trolley's.
Hamilton has the density in many of it's existing transit corridors, and the potential to leverage the economic benefits of LRT links. I struggle to understand what it holding the city back.

Coincidentally, Dec 15, 2007 was to have been the inaugural day of Seattle’s mothballed 14-mile monorail line, which dinged taxpayers to the tune of $124.7M.

The SLU streetcar is definitely an interesting initiative, and I love the ING Direct orange, but it seems like the reception hasn't been 100% festive.
