Some great news out of McMaster University today: two students have won the top prize at a US Inventors competition for a glove that assists the wearer during CPR.
It's another example of the sharp, young minds right here in our city. These are the types of new economy, next generation young people that Hamilton consistently trains and then loses once they complete university.
It is this demographic that we should be looking to and learning from when we make decisions about our city, not the old boys club from the 1950s.
You'd be sure to find 99 out of 100 students like this very keen on seeing light rail in Hamilton, along with a 24 hour downtown core full of great shops, condos and vibrant public spaces.
New technology companies and high environmental standards would also be high on their list in determining this city's quality of life.
If we ever expect to keep these bright young minds we had better start changing the way we run this city.
In the meantime, we can pat ourselves on the back for offering world-class educational experiences, and then pat our graduates on the back as they leave town.

Most young minds are taught to think progressively rather than regressively. They also have the benefit of not being mired in bad habits.

What students are you refering to? Humanities students? Religious Studies majors? If you tell students just how much this is likely to cost and how ineffective it has been proven to be most would disagree.
You always go on about the utopia of light rail. Do you seriously believe that people who currently drive cars will stop driving them to take light rail? If cars emmitted toxic fumes from their mufflers people would not give them up! I hate to say it but it is true.

Well yeah. That's EXACTLY what happens in nearly every city that invests in light rail.
