A current news story on the CHML website acts as a good reminder to everyone that there are much more important things in life than politics, even in the life of a politician.
Last night was the final council meeting for Dave Braden, Bill Kelly, Art Samson and Murray Ferguson, as none of the four are seeking re-election. As citizens it can be easy for us to almost dehumanize our public figures, whether it be in sports, politics, entertainment or any other public position. It's easy to rail on them when we disagree and put them on a pedestal when we like what we see. At the end of the day, politicians are regular folks like you and me, who have chosen to get involved and do their best for their community.
Having Murray Ferguson at the table for a final time last night was especially moving, considering his health troubles in recent months since suffering a stroke.
Nothing is more important than life or family. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family during this time. I wish Murray a quick recovery and thank him for serving his community for many years.
