The Community in Motion Awards were inaugurated this year "to recognize members of the community who have made an effort to actively support and promote the use of healthy and sustainable forms of transportation such as walking, cycling, and public transit.". Winners will be awarded formally on May 27, 2013 in Gore Park at next year's annual Bike to Work event.
RTH Editor Ryan McGreal will be speaking at a free event this evening on involving the community in sustainable transportation innovations.
The Event is organized by Smart Commute Hamilton.

Well done. Some seasoned players in there (EH is 11, RTH 8, give or take). I'll be interested to see who wins next year!

so, when do we pick up the $1 million cheque?? Lol.
Great job by all involved in furthering the cause for a more liveable Hamilton. That list of recipients is very worthwhile.
By the way, if you haven't used Geotrail, you need to. It's amazing. I use it all the time on my iphone.

Congrats RTH. Well deserved! Might I suggest that there should be an award for people, groups, or organizations who give citizens platforms where they can be engaged citizens - a place they can learn not just about the headlines, but the hard facts of the deeper inner-workings of the places, things, and politics of our cities.
When you suddenly find yourself watching council meetings or Hamilton Life or the O Show or the Opinionator's on C14 instead of watching re-runs of Seinfeld, you know your City and the citizens within it, are doing a good job at helping us find more joy and self-fulfillment in being involved and knowledgeable about the world directly around us.
Thanks RTH for the role you play in changing the way we spend the few precious spare moments in our hectic lives. I can think of no greater gift in return, than to do our best as newly involved parents to raise little Opinionator watchers ourselves. Or CFMU or Indie listeners, or BIA district/Farmers Market smart, local, shoppers.
Our children look up to us. It's important to ask ourselves what they are looking up at?

Congrats for sure! This is a fantastic site and while I don't always agree with the writers or some of the comments, it certainly makes me think of many issues somewhat deeper than I normally would have by just reading the more traditional media.
