Complete Street in Buffalo

I'm in Buffalo for a short visit this week and have been really impressed with the urban initiatives I'm seeing here. I'm working on a full write-up on my observations, but in the meantime I want to mention this complete street design on Elmwood Avenue.

Some nice features of this street:

This street has it all. Not surprisingly, it's booming. Yes, an old neighbourhood in Buffalo.

Our Wilson two-way conversion should have looked like this.

Allentown and Elmwood are great, however is it still hard to find a garbage can on that street? When my ex-bf lived there I'd have to dispose of anything at the Lexington co-op. There were no trash cans for blocks and blocks.

I noticed yesterday they had put new garbage cans all over the place. Lots of benches, bike racks, trees, garbage cans etc.....

multiple uses allowed on the ground floor, except residential I would presume. Doesn't seem to have the parking demands we have here based on some chats with locals.

This is what all of our north south major streets should look like from bay all the way to kenilworth. Some of the busier ones could have parking restrictions on one side during rush hour i guess - although i'd argue that that's basically unnecessary on all of them.

I'll soon be posting the new traffic stats...you're right. No need for multi-lane streets on our N/S streets.
