Hamilton's public health department raised the city's heat status to a Heat Warning (stage 2), meaning two or more days with a Humidex of 40 or higher.

As part of the city's response, all "Cool Places" will be operating, including the Career Development Centre at 181 Main Street West, the Employment Resource Centre at 2250 Barton Street East, and the Employment Resource Centre at 1550 Upper James Street.

In addition, the Salvation Army will be distributing bottled water at Gore Park between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM today.

For help finding a cool place, the Open Hamilton volunteer group has created a web application, called Dowsing, which maps the city's pools and splash pads:

You can follow the City's heat response at www.hamilton.ca/heat.

Update: the embedded Dowsing app was replaced with the 2012 edition.
