Letter: Young Would Consider Aberdeen-Longwood Location

In a letter to Mayor Fred Eisenberger, Hamilton Tiger-Cats owner Bob Young says he would consider an Aberdeen-Longwood stadium location.

You can read the text of the letter.

In the letter, Young argues that the Aberdeen-Longwood site presents >the essential sports stadium requirements of: highway exposure, access and egress for stadium visitors, public transit, and being situated in a commercial/industrial area conducive to hosting as many large audience events as possible without disruption to a neighbouring residential community.

Young had previously expressed interest in the west-end site.

The site is currently slated as planned employment lands to accommodate spin-off businesses established through the McMaster Innovation Park project on Longwood Rd.

The parties involved should expect a cease and desist order from the major US networks soon - this saga must seriously be cutting into the marketshare of Young and the Restless and General Hospital et al.

Still no room for his massive parking lot and big box centre. The only plus is that it's got the highway visibility. It sounds like they still want a deal to have the keys handed over to them so they can manage the stadium. Someone else had previously mentioned that it would have been nice to factor a potential stadium in that location prior to redoing the Aberdeen bridge and ramps. Traffic would be more of a nightmare here. wouldn't it? Will Hostco accept this site? Does the stadium location alter the GO plans or the LRT?

Longwood is a deadwood disaster. How about that for taking Innovation and JOBS away from Hamilton. Guess this is the only way BY can save face and come back to the table.

Anybody read the article on the Spec this wkd?

White Star has called on former national-team player and businessman John McGrane as an adviser. He said the soccer opportunity is a chance for Hamilton to get the city back to the reason the Pan Am Games were pursued and won. "Marino Rakovac of The White Star Group hopes his vision will resonate with city councilors at Tuesday's special meeting. Rakovac said his company, which has development partners like McMaster Investments and The Molinaro Group, would work at starting a soccer academy and begin bringing in international exhibition games as early as 2012." Private sector gets ignored.

I don't think it's about Bob saving face, it's about the future economic sustainability of the TigerCats in Hamilton.

Bob is willing to work with this site if the city is willing to work with him. It's that simple.

"Would you play there in a boat?
Would you play there with a goat?"

"I would not play there in a boat.
I would not play there with a goat.
I would not play here or there.
I would not play anywhere.
I do not like it, Sam (Fred) I am!"
