Horwath: McGuinty Should Commit Hamilton LRT Money

NDP leader Andrea Horwath just called on the Ontario Government to step up and commit the money to build LRT in Hamilton. A press release the NDP issued today quotes Horwath in Question Period:

We know that badly needed transit lines in Toronto are being mothballed as a result of [the recently announced $4 billion in cuts to transit funding]. Hamiltonians are understandably worried that their city's LRT plan will meet a similar fate. Hamilton can't go ahead with its plan without provincial approval and funding.

She goes on:

If construction doesn't start very soon, the lines won't be ready in time for the Games. The Premier should do the right thing and guarantee that Hamilton's LRT money will flow this year.

People in Hamilton need to get behind Andrea on this and let the Province know Hamilton is keen and ready to go with the LRT.

Miller may be a lame duck, but he is pushing hard to make sure Toronto captures as much of the transit money as possible. Hamilton needs to make some noise too.

Andrea is farting in the wind...she has as much influence over government policy as Krisoferson has over Harper...she is doing it to get votes, not get transit.
