Iceland has announced it plans to ban petroleum by 2050.
Granted, this Scandinavian country has plenty of advantages: abundant geothermal and hydroelectric energy. At the same time, they have leveraged those advantages to reduce - and if all goes well, ultimately abolish - their dependence on cheap liquid fuel.
This should also be a test case to see if hydrogen-fuelled vehicles are practical. It will be interesting to see how hydrogen makes the transition from large, public transit vehicles to personal vehicles.
