Rare Opportunity to Preserve Natural Resource

RTH has written in the past about the opportunity to create a national park in the Cootes Paradise area.

With the ongoing issue surrounding an application to build a self storage garage complex in Dundas, I felt it was a good time to bring the issue up again along with this link to a recent study outlining the possibilities that exist for an Eco-Park in this area.

Imagine being able to cycle from Bayfront Park or Downtown Hamilton to a national eco-park right here in one of the nation's most densely-populated cities.

I hope the city can work out a land swap with the self-storage folks, as well as put a quick end to the ongoing rumblings of a mega-townhouse development that is still proposed for the Pleasantview lands.

This is a rare opportunity that most cities would kill for. Let's make the most of it, and preserve one of our most beautiful natural features.

I can't find any recent info on the rezoning application for the self storage company. Council was to vote on it Feb.25, but the meeting minutes only state that council accepted the ecdev and planning committee's report. Does this mean they support the committee's denial of the application? Anyone know the status?
