Room Forty One

From the moment we walked in the door to the time we left, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Room Forty One.

As I've said before, one can judge a city by it's food. If that's true, then Hamilton has just become the greatest city on the planet, thanks to a new restaurant on King William Street.

Room Forty One has done a wonderful job renovating the space formerly occupied by La Costa. Many of you have probably seen the striking purple exterior. That theme is continued inside, including one of the most overlooked places in many restaurants - the washrooms.

Wonderful artwork adorns the walls and classic chandeliers hang in the back dining room.

As soon as you slide into your seat you'll know that this isn't going to any ordinary meal. Soft leather seats are so comfortable you won't want to leave. In fact, my wife and I ended up staying so long we missed the movie we had planned to see in Jackson Square and had to see a later show.

One of the two owners greeted us and took our coats when we arrived. It must be said that everyone was very pleasant and took some time to chat with us.

For starters, I ordered the Chilled Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail with Fresh Horseradish Salsa. It was wonderful, and came in a surprisingly good portion. My wife had Sauteed Chinese Greens with Sesame, Sambal and Soy. It, too, was fabulous.

The server waited just the right amount of time before bringing a complimentary snack from the kitchen - a nice touch indeed. Two tasty croquettes were hot and fresh and very enjoyable. (Unfortunately I don't remember what they were made with).

Our main dishes arrived a short time later. My wife had the Forty One Bouillabisse, which consisted of Jumbo Prawn, Scallops, Rare Seared Tuna, Mussels, Chorizo, and Saffron. It was amazing. I've never tasted tuna like that in my life.

I had the special of the day, a Shoulder and Rack of Lamb, along with Ginger Laced Potatoes, Mint Syrop, and Swiss Chard. Let me say it right here: it was the best meal I've ever had in my life. My wife agreed. She said at one point that she felt like getting up and dancing across the room.

We both had cappuccinos and decided to try a dessert. We knew our movie was starting, but couldn't leave without seeing what kind of tasty treats these folks could come up with. They delivered another home run.

We had the Chocolate Trio, consisting of Picone's Dark Chocolate Mousse, Churros with Milk Chocolate, and White Chocolate Crème Brulee. It was heavenly. We finished it off despite the screaming from our stomachs to stop.

From the moment we walked in the door to the time we left, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Room Forty One. We will certainly go back and urge everyone else to try it out. You won't believe your taste buds.
