That's a good point.
The City already made a massive concession when it agreed to accept façadism (and subsidize it with a $1.1 million grant).
There is plenty of vacant land behind and to the west that is owned by Blanchard et al and could be used for a new development that could incorporate the current buildings. A little creative thinking and innovative architecture could produce a top level attractive project that would provide new commercial/residential space and also the sort of high value heritage property that is in demand.
Other cities do this all the time ... with real estate values rising Hamilton could do it too!
