Good News for Beasley

Hamilton's poorest neighbourhood will finally get a new three- storey school with an attached new community centre [PDF] at Beasley Park, with reciprocal agreements to share some facilities.

Dr. Edgar Davey Elementary School will be torn down at the end of June, 2009 and rebuilt on its current site in time for September 2010. During construction, students will be bussed to neighbouring schools.

The current Beasley Community Centre is a small, aging 1,500 square foot facility. The proposed replacement will be a 5,500 square foot addition to the school.

Building the community centre attached to the new school will allow sharing of the gym equipment, reduce the loss of greenspace in the park, and minimize the impact of the construction period.
