The Ontario government has announced that starting December 1, it is exempting bicycles and bike helmets from the provincial sales tax.
Raise the tax on automobiles and gasoline and lower transit fares, and then we'll really be talking...

I cannot find anything about what happens to bikes above $1000.
If the exemption disappears completely it puts the bike shops in a pickle on how to price bikes in that range.
