Okay, people, if you're anything like me the Stanley Cup playoffs ended last Saturday when the Sabres were eliminated. Who to cheer for now?
How about our own Hamilton Bulldogs?
The Bulldogs are in the midst of an improbable run deep into the Calder Cup playoffs. They are now two wins away from making the Calder Cup finals with three games in Hamilton this week.
Tickets are cheap, Copps is easily accessible and the hockey is great. Crowds have been low during this playoff run which likely has to do with the incredible spring weather we've had the past six weeks and the fact that the nearby Sabres were rolling through the NHL playoffs.
Now we've got summer smog warnings and extreme heat and the Sabres are gone.
Get out to Copps this Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and cheer on our hometown boys!

the bulldogs have been forsaken! where is the advertising?? i dare say that there are hundreds, even thousands of hockey fans in this town that are unaware that the bulldogs are still playing. also, like others, i'm hesitant to sit in a 17,500 seat arena with 1000 of my closest friends but i'll be taking the plunge this friday. go dogs!!

They have been advertising. In the paper, radio and TV. It is not NHL so people in Hamilton do not look at it.

they won last night so are only 1 win away from the finals. for those not too familiar with downtown Hamilton, make an evening out of it. Dinner at a patio in Hess Village just around the corner from the arena or finish off your night after the game over at the Honest Lawyer sports bar or back along King West/Hess. Don't believe the press that there isn't much to do downtown. The NHL did us a favour by scheduling no games for the rest of the week. The only hockey being played until Monday is in the AHL. Friday night the Dogs can end the series. Come out and cheer them on!

I wish there were more RTH articles on local sports in Hamilton. Supporting local teams builds civic pride. Go Dogs Go! (although I'd rather see an NHL team in the city).
