The Hamilton Spectator is currently in the midst of a campaign to find "One Big Idea" that Hamilton can sink it's teeth into and help turn the image and fortunes of our city around.
I was delighted to see my two submissions - City of Waterfalls and the Downtown Challenge - make the top 10 list.
Whether either one is chosen winner or not, they are both ideas that should be explored further. We at Raise the Hammer may even decide to promote the Downtown Challenge in a future issue, as it something any Hamiltonian can do.
In the meantime I have uncovered a wealth of local information regarding our City of Waterfalls. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who thinks this image is a perfect fit for our city.
The Hamilton Naturalists Club has a great link on their website about Hamilton's waterfalls.
Also, check out the easy to read map with indicators on every waterfall location.
The Hamilton Conservation Authority also has a page on their website dedicated to Hamilton's waterfalls.
They also have an excellent guide book with detailed info on several local waterfalls. Hard copies can be picked up at the Tourism Hamilton office or if you can download one from this page.
Too often we allow people to judge our city based on a single view from the top of the Skyway Bridge. It's time to rebrand our city and tell the world that we have dozens of beautiful waterfalls right here in Hamilton.
It's also time for us local residents to get out and enjoy the wonderful nature that exists in our city.
