My Breast Self

My Breast Self, written and performed by Emanuela Hall, deals with one woman's problems with breastfeeding and her fears that she isn't the perfect mom and doesn't love her baby enough.

Intensely personal, the 15 minute short takes us into the often-difficult time mothers have with breastfeeding. The performance is emotional, but clear and never maudlin.

If I have any quibble it's that the pace of the show never really varied, something a director might have been able to help Ms. Hall with.

The only major issue I had has nothing to do with the play, but the venue. Because the Visitor Centre is open on Saturday's, patrons, sometimes noisy, came in and out of the office during the performance. At one point it got so bad the stage manager had to go to ask them to be quiet. The visitor centre volunteers also didn't turn the music off for much of the show.

I'm not going to say this show is a must-see, but it is well done, and there are far worse ways to spend 15 minutes.
