The driver, 42-year-old Joseph Warren, was charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm and possession of a controlled substance (marijuana) after he blew more than three times over the legal limit in a breathalyzer test. His charge has since been upgraded to impaired driving causing death.
At around 6:00 PM on Wednesday, the jogger was running eastbound on the north side of Charlton Avenue where Charlton turns into Wentworth, when a 2006 Toyota Corolla struck her while she was crossing the road. Emergency Services took her to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

I hope they throw the book at the guy.

.
Impaired driving aside, that blind corner is dangerous and always makes me nervous when trying to cross. Foot and bike traffic is busy enough on that section of escarpment trail to warrant a change to how traffic operates in that section.
Very sad to read this.

Really sad. I hope the driver does some jail time. Even after paying his debt, I hope he is never allowed to drive again.
Separately though, I agree with T. That crossing is crazy dangerous as a pedestrian. There's simply no way to look far enough up Charlton to see if the path is free before crossing at the speed cars travel this road. Given how many people use the rail trail, I think it's wise to make some infrastructure changes. Charlton should have reduced speed signs and possibly rumble strips at the base of the hill (cheap). Ideally it would have a pedestrian-operated crosswalk too, but that's more expensive.

According to family - she was not on the road, she was already across the street on the grass in front of the Wentworth Stairs when the drunk jumped the curb and struck her.
I do agree that this is a terrible place to cross, and would love to see a raised bridge across for pedestrians with track to bring a bicycle up.
