Police Charge Driver in Flamborough Cyclist Collision

Police have charged a 19-year-old man after a collision with a cyclist in Flamborough on July 7. The driver, a citizen of the USA, has been charged with careless driving and failure to turn out to the left to avoid a bicycle.

According to the police report, the driver struck the cyclist from behind while both vehicles were traveling eastbound on Hwy 97 between Cooper Road and Kirkwall Road.

The driver was not injured, but the cyclist, a 54-year-old woman from Guelph, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. According to the Police, she is now in stable but critical condition.

The charged man is scheduled to appear in court on August 3, 2011.
