Rather than spending Monday evening discussing, arguing, agreeing with and possibly even shouting at people online, we invite you to do all of those things in person, in real life, while drinking real alcoholic (or non-alcoholic, if you prefer) beverages.
It's the Raise the Hammer Elections Party, where you and a good cross-section of other Hamiltonians who care about local democracy can hang out and have a couple of drinks while the returns come in.
Location: Ceilidh House Irish Pub, 107 George Street, in Hess Village.
Time: around 9:00 pm 8:00 pm until the election is decided, which is normally around midnight 10:30 pm or so, and then for as long as you like afterwards for either celebrating or commiserating. (Edit: results of the last election were in by 10:20 pm so we've moved the time a bit earlier.)
Come out and cheer for your favourite candidates! With this many in the race for mayor, plus lots in the downtown wards too, it's bound to be a horse race far more interesting than actual horse racing.
Candidates are welcome to attend as well.
We hope to see you all on Monday!

I'll be there! Looking forward to it.

If I remember correctly, the last election was decided by around 10pm. I think it's only the fed/provincial elections that take till midnight. FYI

Thanks Jason, I've moved the time ahead by an hour but of course, please show up as early as you like. I should be there by around 8:00 pm.

I don't think I can get my husband to tune in at home on Monday so count me in.

FYI, this blog entry was posted around 10:00pm on the last election night based on the time of the comments. The city's website had already posted all of the results for the entire city by then:

I'd love to come out, because I really enjoyed the RTH "Angry drinks" session at Pheasant Plucker last year, and I think it would be great to see/meet and drink with some of you guys again.
That said, I unfortunately won't be able to make it tomorrow.
Although I definitely suggest we do more events like this in the future.
I almost-definitely won't be there, but I like the initiative RTH is taking to coordinate events like this. Face-to-face discussion is rare but so valuable - especially at points like this.

Seconded.
I'm involved with two campaigns so it's unlikely I'll make it out either.

Daze - Took your advice and had a great time with your mom last night.
Perhaps I should have mentioned the reason I won't be there is because I'm hosting an election party at my house for my own neighbours and friends, but trolls who live under bridges can continue to throw stones, I suppose.
And at some point I'm sure further discussion with the RTH community face-to-face will be lovely. Especially since trolls don't have the balls to show up in person and insult women to their face.
Thanky kindly, spamalot.

I'll attend, why not? Sounds like fun.

Hope you guys had a nice time! School night pubnights aren't a good idea for our household, so we drowned our incumbent re-election sorrows in a glass of wine on the front porch, and watched our neighbour across the street take in the Tetley sign.

Methinks methinks it's time for another Angry Drinks...

Thanks to everyone who made it out last night. It wasn't a huge turnout but there were lots of good conversations. Hope to see all of you again soon!
