Candidates describe the five most important actions they would take to improve Hamilton.

1. Policing and Safe Neighbourhoods.

Hire additional police officers
Continue to increase the police presence in Ward 4, East Hamilton
Continue to increase evening and weekend usage of community centres and schools so that young people have somewhere safe to go
Continue to expand neighbourhood watch programs
Expand special police unit to combat youth crime
Continue supporting our firefighters and EMS workers

2. Safe Drinking Water and a Healthy Environment

Ensure that drinking water in Hamilton is the safest in Canada by increasing water testing
Aggressively pursue industry to combat air quality fallouts, odour issues and noise issues
Aggressively pursue proper standards compliance
Continue pursuing class action suits and charges under the Environmental Bill of Rights to combat Carbon Black and other fallouts

3. Put people first

Continue to have neighbourhood committees to advise me on how to serve residents better
Continue to provide 24 hr, 7 days a week on-call service
Ensure essential services are not privatized
Stop the introduction of user fees on garbage pickup
Work to improve basic city services (Snow removal, tree cutting, street cleaning, etc.)
Continue to bring thc most funding for road and sidewalk redevelopment in the City
Continue to work to esure Ward 4 continues to haue the lowest tax rate in the city
Ensure sewer infrastructure upgrades are completed in 3-5 years from the 25 year plan we inherited causing the flood crisis.
