Yes, Canada is Guilty of Genocide

On December 9, 1948 the United Nations Convention of the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide established the UN definition of genocide as:

any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

a. Killing members of the group;
b. Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
c. Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
d. Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
e. Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.

Using this checklist, Canada is five for five.

It is well established that the most efficient way to eradicate an inconvenient group is to target the women and children.

Canada did this by creating and enforcing the Indian Act, reserve system, residential school system, forced sterilization of both Indigenous women and men, Sixties Scoop and current child welfare system, failing to live up to Jordan's Principle and by failing to ensure basic human rights like potable water on reserves - a human right every other person living in Canadian takes for granted.

In fact, both the German and the South African governments sent representatives to Canada in order to study our reserve and residential school systems before implementing the Nazi plan and Apartheid.

Absolutely, the term genocide needs to be used when referring to Canada's egregious treatment of Indigenous peoples because Canada has a well-established history of never-ending attempts to eradicate Indigenous Nations.

The Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls report simply summed up the obvious by using the most truthful word.
