Gordon Price and St. Vincent de Paul schools will get a new School Zone posted area if the city's recommendation goes ahead. This means Guildwood Drive and Greencedar Drive will have a maximum 40km/h speed limit at all times of the day withing 150 m of St. Vincent de Paul and Gordon Price School.

School Zones extend 150 m in each direction from the school property lines and limit speed to a maximum 40km/h. These areas are usually more enforced by police than a regular 50km/h posted area.

Guildwood Drive along the proposed School Zone: with a street so wide and bare, is it any wonder some motorists like to speed here?

This should make the area safer for children and residents who often experience heavy and speeding traffic in the Gurnett neighbourhood bouned by Upper Paradise, Stonechurch, Golf Links and The Linc.

The Gurnett neighbourhood has had recent traffic audits and independent traffic studies due to increased traffic and limited arterial road access caused by the Meadowlands and the cut-off of Upper Horning because of the Linc.

The recommendation will be made at the next City Council meeting. Thanks to Councillor Terry Whitehead for his efforts.

And can't wait for the day he stops hearing "on facebook".
