Yes my friend, open data is cool. I found this data right out in the open on The Hamilton Spectator web site.

combined investments and initiatives are already making a difference for Ontario families, as the poverty rate for children in Ontario declined from 15.2 per cent in 2008 to 14.6 per cent in 2009. In 2009, 19,000 fewer Ontario children were living in poverty. Madeleine Meilleur, Ontario Minister of Community and Social Services

As an average reader I may celebrate the 19,000 children lifted from poverty and never even give IT a second thought. Cool. However as an open, avid and more intuitive data reader, I may also use the numbers given and work backwards towards the actual number of Ontario children STILL living in poverty: .6/100 = 19,000/X ; .6X = 1,900,000 ; X = 3.17 Million and I find this number is so much more chillin'.

Let us celebrate the coolness of OpenData by making an even bigger splash that tempers our public errata with some cold hard cash!
