LRT Video a Hopeful Blast from the (Recent) Past

Is it too soon to be nostalgic for six years ago? This video from October 2008 states, "Now is the time for Hamilton to move forward with a new rapid transit system."

Citing the strong evidence for economic development, increased ridership, improved air quality and health, narrator Laura Babcock also notes the extensive community outreach the City undertook in their two-part Rapid Transit feasibility study. The City consulted 1,600 people and found overwhelming support for rapid transit and specifically light rail transit.

A pre-Council Brenda Johnson, speaking for Environment Hamilton, is quoted waxing enthusiastic about the potential for more and better quality transit to "change people's travelling patterns" and improve air quality.

In a segment asking members of the public for their opinions, resident Lance Hardie says, "Well, let's get at it! What are they sitting on their hands for?"

What indeed.

(h/t to Jason Nason for digging up the video.)
