Hamilton is a federal election battleground, with both the Liberals and Conservatives targeting NDP ridings. To this end, the first two of what will likely be many campaign stops by the leaders in Hamilton are occurring today.

At 6:00 PM, Prime Minister and Conservative Party leader Stephen Harper will address supporters at the Hamilton Convention Centre. At 7:30 PM, Liberal Party leader Michael Ignatieff is addressing a town hall forum of his supporters at LIUNA Station.

The Conservatives are hoping that current Ward 9 City Councillor Brad Clark will be able to capture Hamilton East Stoney Creek from incumbent NDP MP Wayne Marston.

The Liberals are targeting Hamilton Mountain, with Dr. Marie Bountrogianni carrying the banner for them against incumbent NDP MP Chris Charlton. Bountrogianni previously represented the riding in the provincial legislature as a Liberal MPP and was a member of Premier Dalton McGuinty's cabinet in his first term.

The stakes are high for both parties. The Conservatives need every seat they can pick up if they are to achieve a majority. The Liberals once held all the seats in Hamilton and have lost all of them over the last three elections.

Live Video

The Hamilton Spectator is providing live coverage of tonight's election rallies. I will be freelancing with the Spectator tonight as the on-site producer for the live video streams.

The Spectator has graciously offered the live video stream to other local websites, including Raise the Hammer.

Live video coverage of both rallies from thespec.com is embedded here with permission.

ScribbleLive

You can also follow and participate in liveblogging on tonight's rallies via ScribbleLive. Twitter posts containing both the #HamOnt and #elxn41 hashtags will appear in the ScribbleLive stream.

As time permits, I will be live-tweeting from the rallies on my Twitter account @JoeyColeman.

Oh Man! I wish I had your feed!

"'Daddy?''Yes Son?''What does regret mean?' 'Well son, a funny thing about regret is...that it's better to regret something you have done, like send a letter to the GG threatening a coalition government, than to regret something you haven't done. And by the way, if you see your mother this weekend, tell her: HARPER, HARPER, Harper...'" -Sweet Loaf Redux
