Word on the Street

Louder Than a Bomb Hamilton

Join Hamilton Youth Poetry Slam! as they engage students, educators and members of the community in an evening of spoken word performance by Dominique Chestand, and Canada’s most prolific and celebrated poet, Shane Koyczan ("To This Day").

This event will be transformational for participants and have a huge impact on young artists across Hamilton, as funds raised by this event will go towards training and placing youth mentors into local high schools to prepare slam club teams for LTABC 2015 (May 1st-9th 2015).

Louder Than A Bomb - Youth Poetry Festival is a friendly competition that emphasizes community and self-expression via poetry, oral storytelling, and hip-hop spoken word. Founded in Chicago in 2001, it is the world's largest annual poetry and hip hop festival, with expansion sites in several other major U.S. cities, South Africa, and Hamilton as the first Canadian LTAB. Louder Than A Bomb Canada was officially launched on May 2nd 2014, engaging over 600 young adults who attended, performed, volunteered and supported the event at an event that created a safe space for community building, education, and youth empowerment. We are proud that we were able to keep the event free and accessible for our first year and look forward to another awe-inspiring celebration of youth voices. Our aim this year is to engage students year-round by providing schools and community groups with teaching artists and mentors needed to form poetry clubs where students get together to write and practice their poetry pieces and prepare for Louder Than A Bomb Canada 2015.
