Hamilton Public Works - Sustainable Mobility Group and Share the Road Cycling Coalition invite you to attend the annual Transportation Summit in Hamilton.
This year's summit focuses on 'Complete Streets'- streets that are designed for safe use and access for everyone. An array of international and regional speakers and panelists will discuss how to make streets friendly and efficient for all modes of travel, in order to influence modal share, create sustainable communities and improve quality of life for all.
Special Guest Speakers Include:
Dave Cieslewicz, Former Mayor of Madison, Wisconsin. Dave helped Madison become one of America's most bicycle friendly cities during his 8-year tenure, having achieved Bicycle Friendly Community Gold. Dave will inspire with his solutions for creating a "Bicycle Friendly Community".
Peter Lagerwey, Senior Planner, Toole Design Group, Seattle. Peter is a nationally known expert having worked on numerous non-motorized projects, and co-author of a manual on "How to Develop a Pedestrian Safety Action Plan." Peter is a key contributor to the City's on-going Pedestrian Mobility Plan, which incorporates tools to encourage development of Complete Streets in Hamilton.
Norma Moores, Senior Transportation Engineer, IBI Group, Hamilton. Norma is an Associate at IBI Group in their Hamilton office with 25 years experience in transportation engineering. For the last two decades, she has focused on understanding how to accommodate cyclists and pedestrians, including those with mobility or visual impairments, into our roadway corridors. She has completed numerous active transportation master plans and designs, including a few with awards from Canadian and American planning institutes. Norma is on the Board of the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals (APBP), and is a Fellow of the Institute of Transportation Engineers. She is currently the only Canadian instructor for the National Complete Streets Coalition's workshops.

Hamilton was awarded a Silver designation in the Share the Road Bicycle Friendly Community program in 2011, is developing a Complete Streets Strategy in 2012, and a strategy to achieve a Gold designation in 2013.
This summit will cover strategies for expanding cycling infrastructure, reviving cycling culture, renewing pedestrian infrastructure, integrating transit, and adopting complete streets design philosophies

Choose between 2 workshops: a Complete Streets Interactive Workshop on how a strategy can be developed for Ontario communities provided by Norma Moores of IBI Group, or attend an Infrastructure Walking Tour of Hamilton, while discussing pedestrian, cycling and transit infrastructure, challenges and opportunities.
