Consultation is good and all, but this seems like a bit of a feedback loop. Wouldn't the idea be to fill voids in media coverage? If so, it's pretty self-explanatory: If you've heard about it on TV or radio, read about it on Twitter or Facebook, or seen it in The Spec, odds are you need to dig deeper. Start by avoiding the crutch of status quo hashtaggery and EcDev-Chamber-Tourism Hamilton-James North-Locke South onanism iced with rich multimedia. Telling the story of how the cool kids landed in a city that looked like Parkdale with gigantism but had Honest Ed house bargains, or how an old immigrant neighbourhood is a hidden gem with a seamy past, or how an industrial city is turning the corner or a steel town lives in harmony with nature only adds reverbs to the riffs that have been played ad nauseam. Surprise. Delight. Engage new audiences. Break new ground. Dare to offend. Disregard sacred cows.
