I did indeed read the article before commenting. When Doig writes "streetcars", read LRT -- I don't think anyone is laying TTC-style track outside Toronto.

I still don't see why it's so hard to understand that replacing dozens of cars with one LRT vehicle reduces the overall burden of high-speed traffic. The choice before Hamilton isn't LRT versus neighbourhood streets designed for pedestrians and cyclists. It's LRT versus our current transportation system, which is 99% designed for the private automobile.

Would you argue that Ryan's position implies that we should get rid of our subways, intercity rail, and airlines? If not, why not?
