There is also the fact that their "home" remains uncleaned their entire stay. Bar owners have confirmed some of their more boisterous clientel harrass the deer when they close up shop. There is also the increased aggression among the deer I witness every year, as the weeks of incarceration draw onward. The food supply becomes more and more tainted with their own waste and cramped quarters further aggravates the problems associated with their unnatural surroundings. Security are either huddled in their booth away from the caged, or not to be seen. Unfortunately City Council has the same contempt for the deer as they do many people of Hamilton and refuse to listen to the truth. The "display" is hardly a great draw as deerless malls continue to effortlessly outdo the core. Our school system has a part to play in this with classes being brought to be misinformed and inproperly educated as the deer are not reindeer and Nature is not something one should package for public consumption. Such factually challenged info. is being gleefully tought to innocent children. But the again, I may be expecting to much. On one class trip I overheard either a teacher or parent Say, "Don't stand to close to the cage, there are pigeons in there as well. One might grab you and fly away!" Can I expect too much of people who fear rampaging, child-stealing pigeons? The child did carefully step away and would not approach or give food to the deer the entire trip.
