Imagine you go to a gym and you're interested in joining. And the front desk says "We've got a great deal on a lifetime membership." And you say "Ok, how much is it a month?" "Oh, we can't tell you that until you sign the contract." If you listen to LRT supporters you sign on the dotted line. Everyone else backs away slowly. Metrolinx can't provide a figure on how much operating LRT will be but don't worry everyone. Just trust them. After all the agency that installs bridges upside down and then pays out a bonus for it knows what its doing.
